About
The Playground
Playground, to BeenieBae, is not a place defined by people or activity, but a space that exists on its own, naturally and without explanation. Whether someone is present or not, it does not feel empty or incomplete. It is a space where anything can happen, where any form of expression is allowed, and nothing feels out of place.
This way of thinking originates from her earlier work, where existence itself was inseparable from space. To exist meant to occupy space, and to occupy space required time, cost, and justification.
In that process, her work revealed a contradiction. When something has a reason to exist, it carries the burden of responsibility and truth. When it does not, the absence of reason becomes its own form of discomfort.

The Response
Playground emerges as her response to this tension. A space that does not require justification, where existence is not questioned, and where presence does not need permission.
What she builds now is no longer an obstruction, but an accumulation. The Playground she creates is formed through the layers of her life — her taste, her personality, and her evolving way of seeing the world.
Through fabric-based works, she constructs fragments of this Playground and brings them into the physical world. What was once internal becomes visible, something that can be seen, touched, and held.

Artist Statement
Playground is a space that exists without needing justification. It comes from a tension between the need to prove existence and the discomfort of having no reason at all. BeenieBae builds fragments of this space through fabric, turning her internal world into something that can exist physically — something that can be seen, touched, and held.— BeenieBae, 2024
