BEENIEBAE’S WORLD BEGINS NOT WITH PLAY,
BUT WITH A PLACE TO EXIST.

Beeniebae is the artistic identity of Seoul-based textile artist Su-bin Bae. Her practice begins with a question: Must we secure a place and prove our purpose or usefulness before we are allowed to exist?

In large-scale installations such as PLAYGROUND and A Sculptural Accumulation of Forms, vivid colors and rounded, playground-like forms occupy space before explaining why they belong there. The playground becomes a visual language through which unfamiliar beings can enter the world gently.

Her ongoing Playground Archiving series continues this inquiry through textile objects, each carrying its own shape, character, and story. The objects lean, overlap, and gather to form temporary playgrounds. They are held within transparent resin, a space created after their arrival, to preserve a fleeting arrangement while leaving their softness, seams, and vulnerability visible.

Through these works, Beeniebae explores the desire to keep what is destined to change. When a work enters a collector’s space, the collector experiences the joy of keeping close what moved them, while the work gains a new place and relationship in which to continue existing.
